Welcome to Chippenham Garden & Allotment Society

18th APRIL 2020
Chippenham Town Council have advised that all allotments are currently still open. We ask that you please adhere strictly to the social distancing guidelines set out by the Government.

If you are self isolating and not going to your allotment, please advise your Site Warden. However, if you have a family member/friend looking after your plot then please advise the Warden so they are aware.

BONFIRES
Please do not burn anything on your plots during this Covid-19 emergency. Many sites are surrounded by houses where vulnerable people may be getting their only bit of fresh air through an open window.

FOOD DONATIONS

We hope you are staying safe and well and that you have been able to take advantage of the recent good weather to work on and enjoy your allotment.
One of the Society’s members, Teodora Yankova, has done a lot of research to find a charity willing and able to accept donations of fresh fruit and vegetables.  This topic has been discussed on a number of occasions at the society meetings. She has been in touch with a local food support initiative by St Peters Church called Foodbox where they support people in need with food supplies. They would be very happy to receive fruit and veg donations from our society allotments. If you would like to be involved making donations of fresh fruit and veg either now or later in the season please contact the society and we will put you in touch with Teodora.

Chippenham Garden & Allotment Society manages six allotment sites around the town on behalf of Chippenham Town Council.

  1. Hi, we are a Chippenham primary school needing help to put up a 12×15 ft polytunnel. Would you have anyone willing or able to help?

  2. I have numerous guinea pigs and on a weekly basis have bags of waste which may be of use to help boost your compost heap. I can separate the shavings from the bedding which will consist of hay, sometimes a tiny amount of barley straw , any greens not eaten ie carrots, kale etc and most importantly lots of pig poo which is in pellet form .i am just off the Malmesbury Road and it is available weekly . If shavings are wanted as well the quantity will be 12 extra large black refuse bags weekly .
It’s currently taken to the recycling centre but I’d rather it be recycled

  3. We have lots of sheets of wool insulation from food delivery boxes. We’ve used it for cat beds, bird nesting material and around seedlings but have still developed a stockpile!
We also have lots of spare soil if anyone wants to bring a bag and fill up.
If you’re interested in either, please get in touch. We’re in central Chippenham.
